Flickr, the photo sharing service that has been able to demonstrate the power of social media better than others, surpassed 3 billion photos stored a few days ago. More and more frequently, these photos come from latest generation cell phones that attach a label to them (called a geotag) that identifies the location where they were taken. The Flickr team has collected over 90 million photos with geographical information and decided, with a " reverse geocoding " operation, to "connect the dots" to identify the coincidence between the cartographic boundaries and those deriving from the use of technological tools -social. The result is, in my opinion, very fascinating because it allows us to visualize, and therefore to become aware, of another territory.

According to Shirky , new social tools , such as blogs, wikis, social networks, produce an interesting social effect only when they become technologically boring . They basically allow the reduction of two types of costs: production/publication costs and transaction costs (the managerial costs of managing organizations.
